very first The goal of our breeding program at ShiSedo is to produce attractive Lhasa Apsos of superior quality that conserve, in both their appearance and their demeanor, the essence of original Tibetan type; little dogs that would be as comfortable running around the Himalayan mountains as living in our backyards. In Sandy’s early advertising for ShiSedo, her motto was “Pet Temperaments…Show Personalities.” No words could better sum up our commitment to producing healthy Lhasa Apsos that reflect the best of their ancient heritage by being joyful, bold, smart and loyal. After breeding her first ten champions, Sandy Nyberg received an American Lhasa Apso Club Register of Merit award in 1981. Barb Kelm and Leslie Baumann purchased puppies from Sandy in the 1980’s and she became their mentor. Because Barb and Leslie shared Sandy’s vision of what a good ShiSedo Lhasa should be, they eventually became a part of the “ShiSedo family” and were awarded their own ALAC ROM’s in 2001. Breeding and showing Lhasa Apsos is a rewarding hobby but by no means an easy one. It requires dedication, perseverance, creativity, and sacrifice. But for the three of us, Sandy, Barb and Leslie, the sport of dogs has been our passion, the glue that holds our lifelong friendship together. Both Barb and Leslie participate in Agility and in 2007, Leslie earned an Agility Register of Merit for ShiSedo Lhasa Apsos. All three partners of ShiSedo are as proud of the obedience, rally and agility titles that our dogs have received as we are of our many conformation champions. Even though Lhasa Apsos are not a “traditional” performance breed, we have found that the bond we develop with our Lhasa companions is greatly enhanced when we work with them, whether as therapy dogs or in a dog sports venue. While there is no denying that Lhasas make great “couch potatoes,” we’ve shown that they can become much, much more. ShiSedo has never produced puppies for the mass market. We breed, at most, one or two litters a year and our puppies are often spoken for before they are born. If you would like us to contact you when we have a litter on the way, please complete our questionnaire.
